Race for the Cure
On June 7, 2009, at least 86 GHCU staff, friends and family will participate in the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure. We’ve already raised over $2,000 on our online website, and that’s just the beginning. We’ve also had a yard sale, a barbeque, a potluck, a bake sale and an auction to raise funds for the fight against breast cancer, and we have more events to come.

If you’d like to donate in support of Team GHCU, you can make a secure donation online with a credit or debit card on the Team GHCU webpage. Just look for the “Support Group Health Credit Union” link on the right-hand side of the page.

Rain City Rollers

May has been a pretty soggy month in Seattle—just ask any of our dedicated (and dripping) Bike-to-Work team. It’s Bike-to-Work month in Washington, and the nine members of the “Rain City Rollers” have racked up 755 miles, burning over 25,000 calories and saving 755 pounds of CO2 from being added to the air.

Clean Up the I-District Day

On May 16, 2009, GHCU staff and their family and friends participated in the annual Spring Clean Up and “paint-out” in Seattle’s International District. The event was organized by SCIDpda, the Seattle Chinatown International District Preservation and Development Authority, in order to enhance the look and safety of the district. For two hours on a sunny Saturday, the GHCU team painted over graffiti, picked up trash and spread fresh wood chips around the base of trees.

Shred-a-thon

If there’s anyone out there who didn’t attend the shred-a-thon on April 25, we’d like to let you know that it was a tremendous success. We had a constant stream of traffic from 9 am until 2 pm, taking in more than 32,000 pounds of paper. So overwhelming was the response, we even had to call in a second truck from Shred-it, who were fortunately willing and able to provide. The paper we collected will be pulped and recycled, saving the equivalent of 213 trees. Best of all, those who attended reduced their risk of identity theft!
